Staffordshire Childs Pearlware Toy Platter TrayFLOW BLUE DIMITY
Thomas Dimmock and Co. Staffordshire England c 1840
This is a scarce miniature transferware platter or meat plate c1840, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The diminutive octagonal tray measures just 3-1/2 inches long. Extremely well potted, to the standards usually only seen in full-size Staffordshire table wares, transfer printed in a cobalt flow blue with an overall star or snowflake sheet print and a contrasting scroll border trim, finished with pearlware glaze.
The piece is
un
marked.
Sometimes found
marked with the embossed initials of the maker, Thomas Dimmock, a well known pottery maker in the Staffordshire region of England from 1828-1859. The pattern name is "DIMITY". A very popular pattern, documented in Doris Lechler's
English Toy China
as pattern #87.
The plate is in great condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Typical transfer imperfections, underglaze gouge, smudges and other typical manufacturing imperfections original to the making. Impeccably made, a fine little specimen. Sold as is, as shown.
We have also listed other early children's transferware this week from our inventory of antique English children's ceramics. We are always happy to combine postage on multiple purchases. Please send us a
