    Description

    Rare Child's Miniature
    Dinner Set Plate
    FLOW BLUE MARBLE SEAWEED
    Minton Staffordshire England c 1838
This is a very early miniature dinner
    plate
made for childs play or to accessorize an elegant Victorian dollhouse. The
    plate
is made of early English ironstone,
transfer printed in deep cobalt flow blue in the Seaweed or Marble pattern, also sometimes called Cracked Ice.
    Measuring 4 inches across, a
beautiful example of early 19th century miniature flow blue made for dinner party and doll house play.
    Unmarked except for
    an impressed NB ('new blanche')
, nothing definitiviely identifies the maker although the form and references in Lechler’s book English Toy China and Punchard’s book Playtime Pottery & Porcelain from the UK and US illustrates examples of the pattern referencing Minton
    or Keeling
. Other makers produced similar sets of teawares and tablewares but the form of these pieces is generally recognized as Minton.
    The
    plate
was played with by generations of children and is
    in great
    overall condition with only
    minor typical glaze crazing
consistent with age and prior use. Minor firing imperfections original to the making. A
    hard to find pattern for
a flow blue childs or doll size set to finish a Victorian dollhouse display.
