Rare Antique Staffordshire Purple Transfer Coffeepot, FRANKLIN'S MORAL PICTURES, Joshua Heath & Co., Hanley, England, c. 1828 - 1841. This tall dome-top coffeepot is a large and impressive purple staffordshire example with a shaped body. This has a wonderful shape to the handle, the spout is shaped and the rim has a wide brim with beehive shaped finial. The teapot has a printed floral mark that reads, "FRANKLIN'S Moral Pictures". This beautiful staffordshire coffeepot has two different transfer scenes, one on each side. One side is the Transferware Collector's Club pattern #4563, Franklin's Moral Pictures #1, illustration of "Don't cry over spilt milk." The other side is TCC pattern #7136, Franklin's Moral Pictures #2. There are no words, just pictures on this staffordshire coffeepot. There is a puzzle from 1795 of Franklin's "Lessons for the Young and Old"; illustrated in Noel Riley's "Gifts for Good Children" book, page 309. The transfer of spilt milk on the puzzle reads around it: "He who saves not as he gets may keep his nose all his life to the grindstone and die not worth a groat./ A fat kitchen makes a lean will./ would you be rich: think of saving. The other side of the coffeepot has a transfer of has a mother and two children picking wheat from the ground. This is called gleaning wheat; gleaning is an ancient tradition where it was common for the poor to be given access to the grain fields after the harvest, so they could collect the spikelets left on the ground by the harvesters.
