Early Green Transferware MiniaturePlatter
DRESDEN FLOWERS
Minton Staffordshire, England c 1830
This is an exquisite antique Staffordshire transferware miniature platter or meat plate
, circa 1825, originally part of a child’s toy tea set. The tray
measures 5-1/4
inches
long with a scalloped rim and pearlware glaze. Transfer printed in rich leafy green (much richer than in the photos), it is decorated with a striking botanical pattern of roses primrose and peonies with a simple chain border trim.
The platter is marked with n impressed numeral 2. The pattern name is Dresden Flowers made by Minton c1820-1830 in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern is illustrated in Lorraine Punchard's "Playtime Pottery & Porcelain" as well as in Doris Lechler's "English Toy China”.
The piece
is in great condition, especially considering its age and use by generations of children. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. An outstanding example of a rare early English floral pattern. The decoration and detailing is first quality.
