Very Rare in This or ANY Condition..!! Don't Miss This One....!!
Resistol has been making hats in Texas since 1927. at first they made western "cowboy" type hats as well as more conventional "Spencer Tracy"/Humphrey Bogart type fedora hats. Now they only make the cowboy hats...
This hat is in a beautiful dark red brown that Resistol called "Cordova" ... maybe that was short for cordovan... And the wide brim.. you can't get 5 inch wide brims from anyone now but custom hat makers and those are VERY expensive, over 00...
This hat appears to date the late 1950s to early 1960s. Coopers Western Wear opened in 1961 here in Albuquerque, but Mr. Cooper had a store before that here too (since 1946), and this could have come from that inventory..... The name changed to Western Warehouse in the early 70s as it was part of the chain that the Mr. Copper started sometime after he opened Cooper's... It is difficult to date Resistol hats without the box or sales receipt (you can make your own analysis - photos 4, 9 and 10), it certainly is 1960s, but it also could be as late as 1970. The Internet sites say brown sweatbands denote pre 1960s... who knows? (If you do contact me...) That would still make it 50 to 60 plus years old. The printing style of the stamp on the leather headband is similar to hats I have that I can date. The silver or gilt stamping of the lettering shows little wear......Any other investigations... I leave that for the new owner...
This beautiful hat is a rare original from the early part of the buildup during the Vietnam War - 1959 to the early 1960s when the previous owner went on the first of a series of tours in South Vietnam while serving in the US Army. Later on he was mayor of Taos, New Mexico.
Marked size 7-1/8.. with a 22" inside circumference... I take a size 7-3/4 or XL, it was too small for me, otherwise I would have kept it....no question.....!!! CHECK the dimensions though.....
Note
:
This very awesome rare hat is in Very Good+++ to near Fine condition, has all the labels, including the quality control inspector label ("Inspected by No.1") on it and would be very difficult, if not impossible to upgrade, unless you find new old stock....
The hat is near perfect from a historical standpoint..!
This has been worn some obviously. There are no other rips, tears or major flaws that I could find.. There is some slight evidence of mothing on the back brim (last photo, but a good hatter may be able to "cure" that... It does not detract at all from the overall appearance or wearability... Pretty good for 50 plus years old...
Photos 3 and 12 are with flash - the rest are without flash. The non flash photos better reflect the true color... See photos 1, 5, 6, 8 and 11 for a close up of the gilt ink stamped labeling
located on the leather sweatband and labels,
and the inside crown label and lining. I can send you a picture of any view or angle,
just contact me well before the last day of the auction!

Thank You to my, good, former customers in Mexico
- Sorry for any inconvenience..!!
eBay's fees are very expensive and you can help me keep costs down by giving top numbers in detailed seller ratings (DSRs). If you feel there is a problem just let me know before you leave feedback so I have a chance to resolve any issue. NM sales tax will be charged to New Mexico residents only.
I will gladly combine on the shipping but please WAIT to pay so I can easily combine your shipping total. I will happily sell overseas, but I insist (as does eBay) on shipping with a tracking number of some sort via priority or express.
I will not declare a lower amount on the customs form. So please do not ask me to do so!
I
will
not
be responsible for thefts on overseas purchases, especially if the item's tracking shows it entered the customs process in the destination country!
I welcome buyers from all over the world. Thank you for looking!
