Description
~ Antique Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Blue Transferware Dinner Plate circa 1820 ~~ TAMS, ANDERSON & TAMS ~
~*~
10 1/2” in diameter
Lovely early Staffordshire plate printed with an unknown English view of a cathedral on a hill, river with cows and a shepherd, shepherdess and dog in the foreground.
One of the loveliest of ‘grotto’ borders I know, it seems to have distinct foreground, middle ground and background.
The sky in the distance seems to have rays of sunlight pouring down over the hill.
Besides producing just a few sought after dark blue views with American scenes for export, the Tams pottery produced a dark blue series with flower border for many English scenes (see Eloise Larsen page 122.)
Marked on the reverse with a printed TAMS ANDERSON & TAMS Warranted STAFFORDSHIRE in a banner, and an impressed sort of asterisk.
~
In excellent display condition, there is fine crazing to the glaze throughout the face and reverse with some light mellowing.
One small glaze pop or stilt mark in the face border done in making.
Please see all the photos and close up photos to add to the condition report.
