    Description

In the last quarter of the nineteenth century there was a super mania for all things Japanese that washed over England.  This plate, stamped Mikado and manufactured in England, features three Japanese hunters, carrying bows and arrows, on horseback as they search for ducks or large birds that are ensnared in nets.  One of the cartouches/motifs pictures a bird falling from the sky with an arrow through its body.  Plate measures 9 1/2" and has Registry Numbers (8823) and is impressed with two unidentified marks.  There are no chips or breaks and colors are bright.
This stunning plate represents the Victorian Era and their love of the exotic east!  Please see my other auctions for matching tureens in the Mikado pattern.
